When it comes to beach holidays in Turkey, Olu Deniz is a resort that stands apart as one of the very best there is.
That’s down in no small part to the fact that it is home to one of the most photographed beaches in Turkey as well as a stunning Blue Lagoon, and also because it benefits from favourable weather throughout the year.
It means that if you book your trip in the height of summer, you can expect to find plenty of sun beating down on you are you relax on the beach; offering plenty of opportunities to make sure you head back home afterwards with a top class tan.
It’s also a beach where you can enjoy a range of different leisure activities both in the water and onland.
Head to the end of the beach and you’ll find the stunning Blue Lagoon that is known around the world and one of the most scenic destinations you could wish to visit on Turkish soil.
With Belcegiz Beach and the Blue Lagoon being so popular, it follows that both can get busy but there is the chance to escape the crowds if you so desire with Paradise Beach being just a few kilometres away.
Should you have a desire to get close to nature, then Turtle Beach or Butterfly valley might be right up your street, with family friendly waterparks for those travelling with children and old ruins dating back thousands of years for anyone with a desire to explore Turkish culture and history.
Despite their being so much to do both within Olu Deniz and within the surrounding area, evenings are more on the quiet side, with little in the way of entertainment away from the hotels.
Expect to find quiet bars where you can enjoy a meal with the family and potentially some live music, but if you want to dance the night away then a trip to Hisaronu should give plenty of options to suit all musical tastes.
Catch a festival
There are a number of festivals held every year in Olu Deniz, so there is a good chance that you might be able to catch one during your HOT Holiday in the sun. You can expect to find plenty of music and dancing, theatrical performances and stalls selling goods. There’s even one festival that honours the humble mushroom.
Turtle Beach
Away from the main beach within the resort, Turtle Beach is also worth a visit. The golden sands, clear waters and the impressive views are reason enough to spend some time relaxing under the sun, but you can also expect to see plenty of loggerhead turtles that head onto the sand to lay their eggs. Just watch out for the wooden stakes that show where the nests are.
Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon sits at the western end of the main beach in Olu Deniz and the turquoise waters could hardly be more inviting. Designated as a conservation area, it’s a fantastic place to go for a swim of a paddle in warmer waters than those found on the beach. You might also spot some of the loggerhead turtles that frequent the area.
Saklikent Gorge
Located just a short distance away from Olu Deniz, Saklikent Gorge is the largest gorge to be found in Turkey and is the place to go if you fancy a hike through dramatic landscapes. A local guide can help to make sure you don’t miss any of the highlights.
Xanthos & Letoon
Xanthos and Letoon are important archeological sites where you can explore a number of ancient structures that date back thousands of years. Long since abandoned, the two sites are now a popular visitor attraction with people flocking to see what is left of the acropolises and churches that were once in regular use.
Waterworld
Waterworld is one of the places to go if you are travelling with the family, with the aqua park featuring a range of different attractions that suit all ages. Easily accessible through a shuttle bus service, the park has a number of large slides for adrenaline seekers as well as a smaller splash area for the smallest children.
Badabag Mountain
A trip to the top of Badabag Mountain offers some of the best views of the area around Olu Deniz, but that’s nothing compared to heading for the summit and then taking to the skies for a paragliding trip back to the base.
Retail therapy
There’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy some retail therapy during a break in Olu Deniz, with a range of markets that run on a weekly basis where you can haggle for a bargain. The main shopping street in the resort is also packed with shops that sell copies of many famous designer goods.
