The city benefits from impressive weather throughout the majority of the year, with this part of Florida enjoying relatively high temperatures no matter the season.
Of course, the summer months are when you can expect the mercury to peak towards the mid-to-high 20s thanks in part to the high levels of humidity.
It means that many people prefer to visit from January through to May before things get too warm. Visit towards autumn and be aware that there may be the odd shower to deal with.
The glamorous and colourful city is home to some of the best stretches of beach in Florida and that means ample opportunity to relax on impressive white sands whilst the sun beats down from above.
You’ll also find that there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby when you need to cool off and seek refreshments, with the summer months offering plenty of chances to party until late both on the beach and within the city.
Off the coast, there is the chance to enjoy a range of different watersports – with diving being particularly popular.
Spend some time exploring and you can’t help but be impressed by the impressive art deco architecture that dates back to the 1920s and 1930s, with the old and new blending together thanks to the modern day skyscrapers that now dot the landscape.
On a break to Miami, you’ll find yourself with easy access to the famous Everglades region, which offers the opportunity to see another side of Florida.
Here, you can hope to spot the native crocodiles that are to be found within the water during a spectacular ride on an airboat.
Little Havana
Miami is home to a large population of Cuban residents so it should come as little surprise that those people who have moved from the Caribbean island have made part of the city their own. Within Little Havana, there is a true Cuban feel and you can expect to hear plenty of traditional music and be able to sample top class Cuban cuisine – almost as if you have headed to Havana itself.
Everglades
Numerous endangered species are to be found within the wetlands of the Everglades, which are located close to Miami and are easily accessible by road. Perhaps the best way to explore is to take a trip on an airboat that allows you to cruise through the waterways in search of the crocodiles the frequent the area.
Diving
Off the coast of Miami you’ll find one of the largest barrier reefs in the world, so those with an interest in diving or snorkeling will love the chance to head underwater and explore not only the reefs, but also a selection of wrecks that sank off the coast.
Key Biscayne
Key Biscayne is a small island community near to downtown Miami where you’ll find stunning beaches and plenty of green space in which to relax. It makes it the ideal place to take a break from the big city.
South Beach
South Beach is one of the top stretches of sand within Miami and a great place to lie back and relax, or to take a refreshing dip in the clear blue waters of the sea. It’s also the place to go if you love people watching, with the locals enjoying running along the promenade of making use of the outdoor gyms that sit alongside the sand.
Shopping
If you want to sample some top class shopping during a break to Florida, then Miami will tick plenty of the boxes. Within the city you’ll find plenty of big names, many of which – likes Macy’s – operate from prime locations near to the beach areas.
Coral Gables
Take a visit to the Coral Gables are of Miami and you can take a dip in the historic Venetian Pool, which dates back to the 1920s. Created from a coral rock quarry, the pool is a popular attraction for both locals and visitors alike and will leave you feeling like you’ve swapped the USA for the Mediterranean.
