As the name would suggest, Costa Calma is the ideal option if you are seeking to enjoy a more relaxing break on the island of Fuerteventura.
Located to the south of the island on the fringes of the Jandia peninsula, the resort is known for the long stretch of white sand that runs along the coast towards Morro Jable.
It’s ideal for those who want to lie back and take in the sun, with the turquoise waters off the coast also being perfect for a range of different water-based activities.
The nearby Parque National de Jandia is well worth exploring for those who want to get closer to the natural beauty of the island, with the Oasis Park less than 15 minutes away offering fun for all the family and the chance to get close to a range of different forms of wildlife.
Don’t expect to party the night away – it really isn’t the done thing in Costa Calma. But you can expect to find a range of bars and restaurants in which to enjoy a more laid back evening.

Oasis Park
Oasis Park is an attraction that offers fun for all the family and is located on the edge of the Jandia peninsula. Here, you can expect to see a varied range of different species – including elephant, hippo and leopards. Sealion and Birds of Prey shows are included, whilst you can get up close and personal with the lemurs and even take a ride on the back of a camel.
Hit the surf
The coast around Costa Calma is famous for top quality surf – so much so that it’s played host to the Windsurfing World Cup for some 30 years. Watching the experts doing their stuff is an experience in itself but you could also book a lesson at one of the local schools to give it a try for yourself if you so desire.
African Market
Held every week, the African Market in Costa Calma is the place to go if you want to pick up a unique souvenir to take back home. Carved wood artifacts and hand stitched leather goods are particularly popular and if you are prepared to barter on the price, you could take home a real bargain.
Pico de Zarza
The highest peak on Fuerteventura, Pico de Zarza is worth a visit if you have an interest in hiking, with a walk to the summit rewarding you with impressive views over the surrounding island. That’s unless the clouds have swept in, in which case you might feel you’re on top of the world…
Shopping galore
Across Costa Calma you’ll find plenty of opportunity to hit the shops, with more than half a dozen malls that provide the opportunity to shop until you drop for treats to take back home.
Dine around the world
Head along the beachfront and you’ll find a range of different dining options during a break in Costa Calma. Traditional Spanish tapas and seafood is particularly popular but it’s far from the only option, with everything from pizzas and burgers to steak and top class Chinese cuisine being available.
