Ialyssos is on the north western coast of Rhodes and is the second largest city on the island. Ancient Ialyssos was located on top of a fortified hill (Filerimos Hill) and about 10 km from Rhodes Town. The town was inhabited in prehistoric times and the remains of a Minoan settlement have been found along with Mycenaean cemeteries (1700-1400 BC). In the 20th century, Rhodes was under Italian rule, and it wasn’t until 1947 that it became officially a part of Greece.
