Travel to Tossa de Mar with us

Tossa de Mar is a stunning location for a HOT Holiday on the Costa Brava, with the chance to combine top class beaches with stunning countryside and the opportunity to explore some Spanish history.

Located around 90 minutes along the coast from Barcelona, the resort benefits from the impressive year round weather conditions that are a feature of the Costas.

Visit during the summer months and you’ll be treated to plenty of sun, with the average temperature running into the high 20s and even nudging over 30.

During winter, there is the chance of some rain but even then, the temperatures will still sit comfortably in the mid-teens at least.

Visit anywhere on the Costa Brava and you can expect to find a top quality beach, and Tossa de Mar is no different.

The relaxed resort features more than 10km of golden sand along the coast, with the main stretch – Platja Gran – being given a Blue Flag rating for its high standards.

It’s the ideal place to lie back in the sun whilst the children take a dip in the water, with plenty of facilities located nearby thanks to a selection of waterfront bars, restaurants and shops.

Off the beach you’ll be able to explore the picturesque surroundings of the Old Town, which is the only fortified medieval town still standings on the Catalan coast.

Once you’ve walked through the city gates, you’ll find a network of narrow streets and traditional old buildings that are a world away from the modern sights seen in many other resorts.

If you decide to take a break from the cobbled streets then you could take a trip down the coast to visit the Catalan capital Barcelona, or could head north to explore the delights of Girona.

Things To Do

Vila Vella

The Old Town of Tossa de Mar is a real treat for those who want to embrace the history of the resort, and is the most popular thing to do for foreign visitors. Walk through the city gates and take a step back in time before strolling through the narrow cobbled streets to visit the seven defence towers, the Far de Tossa and the Museu de la Villa Vella – which houses a myriad of finds from the Roman period. The views over the resort are also something to behold.

El Codolar

Whilst plenty of people will stick to the main beach, those with a nose for exploration will certainly be rewarded if they take a trip to El Codolar. It may be the smallest beach in the resort but its arguably the most picturesque, with cliffs on three sides providing a dramatic backdrop.

Shop till you drop

There are no shortage of shopping options if you are looking for souvenirs during your time in Tossa de Mar, with a range of quaint little boutiques and stores to be found throughout the Old Town. Get lucky and you might even pick up some designer gear at half the price of back home.

Banyoles Lakes

When Barcelona played host to the Olympic Games back in 1992, Banyoles Lake played host to the rowing events. Located to the north of Tossa de Mar, the lake is a peaceful place in which to hire a boat and spend a relaxing afternoon away from the crowds, or to take a walk around the shore.

Sa Riera Park

Located close to the resort, Sa Riera Park is situated in a forest location and is perfect for the family that wants to explore nature, with a small lake and playground amongst the various walks that can be enjoyed. Being under the trees makes it the ideal option if you want to escape the glare of the sun for a little while.

Barcelona

If you don’t mind the trip down the coast then a day in Barcelona is something to try and make sure you fit into your trip. Admire the work of Gaudi, visit the famous Nou Camp, explore the Gothic Quarter or hit the shops in search of a designer bargain; the options are pretty much endless.

Seafront dining

You’ll be somewhat spoilt for choice when it comes to the dining options available in Tossa de Mar but seafood features highly on the list; perhaps not surprising given how the coast on the Costa Brava was once packed with small fishing villages. The small taverns that line the seafront are the place to go if you want to sample the best Catalan specialities.

Embrace the culture

There are plenty of festivals and events throughout the year in Tossa de Mar so there is a good chance that you’ll be able to get involved in something during your trip. The popular carnival runs for a number of days during February, with Fisherman’s Day in June and the popular Christmas bonfires also worth checking out if you can.
