Located in South East Asia, Singapore is one of the most fascinating cities in the world and one that is well worth a visit if you are considering a long-haul trip for your next HOT Holiday.
For some people, Singapore is somewhere to spend a few days as part of a multi-centre adventure or to break up a longer trip to somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere.
However, the former British colony is a destination that very much deserves to be explored in its own right, with the magical island city offering plenty of things to see and do during your trip.
When it comes to choosing when to visit Singapore, you are pretty much good to go at any time of the year – with a tropical climate ensuring that things remain pretty hot and humid throughout the year.
During the winter months is when you are most likely to encounter showers, whilst the summer months can see the temperatures – and humidity – hit their highest points, which is something you might want to bear in mind.
Although still seen by many as a city destination, Singapore is about more than just the large skyscrapers that dominate much of the skyline.
You’ll actually find an impressive amount of green space both within the city itself and also nearby, with the chance to visit stunning botanical gardens or to head into the treetops for a forest adventure.
Away from the green spaces, you can expect to find plenty of history and culture – with museums and galleries aplenty and old buildings that hark back to a bygone era and show a different side to the modern-day city.
The various different cultures that have had an influence on Singapore can be seen in the wide-ranging cuisine that is available across the city – with everything from tasty treats available from street vendors to the very best dishes in a top quality restaurant complete with a Michelin star.
Singapore is also a fantastic place to hit the shops, with plenty of opportunity to indulge in a little retail therapy. As well as plenty of high-end fashion houses, expect to find a colourful section of smaller boutiques and bustling markets where you can seek out a bargain.

Things To Do
Botanical Gardens
The Singapore Botanical Gardens date back to 1859 and are home to more than 10,000 different types of plant. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2015, the Botanical Gardens are one of the top attractions for visitors to Singapore who want to escape the busy city streets, with the National Orchid Garden and a special Children’s Garden
Gardens by the Bay
The Gardens by the Bay is a nature park created on a reclaimed land in the centre of Singapore and is made up of three separate gardens covering an area of more than 250 acres. Vertical gardens, or Supertrees, standing up to 50 metres tall are linked by walkways that provide stunning views over the surrounding greenery whilst there is a unique Cloud Forest packed with tropical plants and the largest indoor waterfall in the world.
Singapore Zoo
If you have a love of animals then a trip to Singapore Zoo is a must during your trip to the city. Rated as one of the best in Asia, the zoo is home to more than 2000 animals representing over 300 different species and is famed for its ‘open concept’ – with animals housed in spacious environments designed to replicate their natural habitats.
MacRitchie Reservoir
The oldest reservoir in Singapore, the MacRitchie dates back to the 1860s and is a great place to head if you want to take a stroll through the various trails that are available – both on land and also in the trees. That’s thanks to the popular Tree Top Walk, a suspension bridge located 25 metres above the ground that offers impressive views of the surrounding rainforest.
National Gallery
The National Gallery is located in downtown Singapore and opened in 2015 as one of the largest collections of Southeast Asian art in the world. The Gallery is spread across two historical buildings, the City Hall and the former Supreme Court, that have been fully restored to create a spectacular attraction that is well worth a visit.
Singapore Grand Prix
First run in 2008, the Singapore Grand Prix is a Formula One race held every autumn on under lights on a specially constructed street circuit around Marina Bay. Pay a visit to Singapore when the race is on and you can’t fail to be swept up by the excitement of seeing some of the biggest names in the sport going wheel-to-wheel around the city.
Keong Saik Road
Once a prominent red light district, Keong Saik Road is now one of the most popular areas within Singapore with food lovers. There are plenty of trendy restaurants and bars where you can sample the very best Asian cuisine alongside dishes from much further afield. Expect your taste buds to tingle as you enjoy your gastronomical trip along the famous stretch.
Orchard Road
One of the most famous shopping streets in Asia, Orchard Road is home to all manner of different stores selling a wide variety of different goods. You’ll also find entertainment complexes alongside the malls as well as restaurants and bars.
