The capital of Puerto Rico is a popular destination for those who are spending time on the island, and is home to a number of top attractions.
The walled old city is home to a number of attractions, which include the historic Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which dates back to the 16th century and the Castillo San Cristobal, which was built by the Spanish to help with the defence of the city.
La Fortaleza – the oldest govenor’s mansion on US soil - can also be found within the Old Town.
Take a stroll through the cobbled streets and you’ll be able to marvel at the impressive architecture, pay a visit to various galleries and museums or visit all manner of restaurants to grab a bite to eat.
There is also no shortage of options when it comes to shopping, particularly if you have a desire to try and find some hand made crafts to take back home as a reminder of your visit.
Should you want to relax, then there are various beaches where you can sit back and take it easy, with Condado being particularly popular. The strip of golden sand sits alongside clear waters where you can take a refreshing dip, whilst there are cafes alongside the nearby strip to grab refreshments.

San Juan National Historic Site
The San Juan National Historic Site is made up of two of the major landmarks in the city, the Castillo San Felipe del Morro and the Castillo San Cristóbal. Both were built to help protect the city by the Spanish and are now one of the top attractions for those visiting the city who want to explore the history and culture around them. The site is also home to the old city wall.
San Juan Cathedral
Located within Old San Juan, the cathedral is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas and dates back to the 1500s - with the current building replacing one that was destroyed by a hurricane.
La Fortaleza
The official residence of the governor of San Juan, La Fortaleza was one of the first structures built to aid with the defence of the city, with a range of walking tours including the chance to gain further information from an informative local guide. The famous La Rogativa sculpture is found next door.
Casa Bacardi
Although not in San Juan itself, Casa Bacardi - often referred to as the 'Cathedral of Rum' - is located in nearby Cataño and is well worth a visit for anyone with even the slightest interest in rum. You can take a guided tour of the factory, enjoy a tasting and even bottle your own Bacardi to take back home.
Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Centre
If you want to catch a show during your time in San Juan, then this is the place to go, with the centre being home to a number of theatres and concert halls that allow it to put on a wide range of different productions every year.
Plaza Las Américas
There are plenty of places in San Juan where you can head for the shops, but Plaza Las Américas puts a large selection under one roof for you to choose from. As well as being able to hunt out a bargain, there are various restaurants available where you can also grab a bite to eat.
