Río Grande is a town on the eastern edge of Puerto Rico, around half an hour from the capital city San Juan.
The town is a popular option for overseas visitors who are travelling to their island for their Caribbean adventure, thanks in no small part to the fact that the El Yunque National Forest is located nearby.
Home to various mountain peaks and lush rainforests, the forest is a fantastic place to visit for those who want to get close to nature with a variety of hiking trails to suit all levels - with the Pico El Yunque - which heads to the summit of El Yunque - being one of the most popular.
Within the trees, you might also enjoy the chance to take part in a Rainforest Zipline Experience - some of which are more than 2,000 feet long - or embrace the challenge of tackling hanging bridges through the forest canopy and rappelling down rock faces and waterfalls.
Away from the forest, the stretch of sand at Coco Beach is one of the most visited on the island and is where you’ll find a number of high class hotels, whilst Las Picúas is another popular choice for those wanting to enjoy a true island beach break.
Río Grande is also home to a handful of golf courses for anyone who fancies getting a round in during their time away from home.
Given how close San Juan is, you might like to take a trip to the city to explore the many historical attractions within the Old Town area, which include La Fortaleza – the oldest governor’s mansion on US soil - and the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.
