The capital of the Czech Republic offers visitors a fascinating blend of the old and new, with the chance to explore years of history and culture whilst also embracing the many and varied delights of a the modern day city.
Like most options for a city break, Prague is very much a year round destination although many people prefer to visit during the spring and autumn periods when the conditions are milder than in the height of summer.
During the middle of winter, temperatures will drop noticeably but that only heightens the appeal for those who are looking to enjoy a pre-Christmas break with the chance of some snow.
When it comes to your time in Prague, you certainly won’t be short of things to do with a huge range of different attractions that will cater for all tastes.
For those who want to explore the Prague of days gone by, then there is the chance to take a stroll through the Old Town or to head for the Medieval delights of the Lesser Town – with plenty of opportunities to marvel at impressive architecture from across the ages.
Should you not want to walk, then you could elect to take in the sights from a boat on a cruise along the Vltava River, which is a great way in which to view the city skyline.
Once you’ve seen the various attractions that Prague has to offer, you could hit the shops for some retail therapy or visit top class restaurants to sample the very best cuisine.
That includes a number of eateries that are so good, they’ve been given a coveted Michelin Star.
You could also hit the bars for a refreshing drink, or even pay a visit to one of the biggest nightclubs in Europe to dance until the early hours.
Astronomical Clock
Prague Astronomical Clock dates back to the early 1400s and is located on the side of the Town Hall in the Old Town Square. Every hour, the clock bursts into life with a number of figures – including the Apostles – moving around the face.
Charles Bridge
There are a number of bridges that cross the Vltava River in Prague, with Charles Bridge being the oldest. It’s worth paying a visit as you take a stroll around the city, with the bridge featuring a selection of impressive statues that originally dated back to the early 1700s.
Jewish Quarter
Prague is home to a Jewish Quarter that dates back to the 13th century and here you’ll find a number of historic buildings, including one of the oldest synagogues anywhere in Europe. There is also a Jewish museum within the city that includes an exhibition on the history of Jews from the 18th to the 20th century.
Prague Castle
Prague Castle is a huge sprawling complex that dates back to the 9th century and is said to be the largest castle complex in the world. The UNESCO World Heritage site features various old buildings that surround the many courtyards and you could easily spend a full day exploring.
Prague Zoo
Opened in the 1930s, Prague Zoo is rated as one of the world’s best and is home to a wide and varied collection of animals, including polar bears, lions and gorillas. It’s a great choice for families who want to enjoy a fun-filled day exploring one of the most popular attractions in the city.
Old Town
Head for the Old Town when the sun goes down and you’re sure to enjoy a great night out in the area around the main square. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, with the lively and friendly atmosphere helping to show the Czech capital at its best.
