Milan Cathedral

The cathedral in Milan dates back as far as the 1380s but was only actually completed in the mid 1960s. The spectacular gothic building is one of the largest churches in Italy and is famous for its towering spires, thousands of statues and impressive stained glass windows. Visitors to the cathedral can head for the roof to take in views of the surrounding area and also to get up to close to some of the most intricate parts of the design.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

If you want to hit the shops in Milan – and who wouldn’t – then a visit to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a must. One of the oldest active malls in the world, the landmark building has been welcoming shoppers since the 1870s and is famous for its huge glass dome , which allows natural light to flood the interior.

Santa Maria delle Grazie

The Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie is home to one of the most famous pieces of art in Italy, with da Vinci’s Last Supper being located in the refectory of the convent. The mural can be viewed on special guided tours that must be booked in advance.

La Scala

The Teatro la Scala is a famous opera house in Milan that opened back in the 1770s. The theatre has been the scene of shows from some of the most famous names in ballet and opera and catching a performance is sure to be one of the most memorable moments of any trip to the city.

Sforza Castle

Once an important citadel in the Italian city, Sforza Castle is now home to a number of museums and art collections and is well worth a visit on a trip to Milan. Expect to see works from across the ages alongside various artefacts that date back thousands of years.

Monza

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is one of the most famous race circuits in the world and plays host to the Italian Grand Prix every year. Easily accessible from Milan, the circuit is also open throughout the year for driving experiences as well as special guided tours where you can take to the podium and follow in the footsteps of some of the great and good of motorsport. Lake Como

Around two hours north of Milan, so accessible for a day trip, Lake Como is one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Italy and well worth a visit if time allows. Surrounded by wooded hills, the lake is a great place to head if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend some time relaxing.
