Maspalomas sits on the southern coast of Gran Canaria and has been popular with visitors from overseas for a number of years.
Like many resorts to the south of the island, the main selling point is the beaches, which stretch for miles along the coast from the resort.
Those beaches back into imposing dunes that could have been lifted from the Sahara Desert and which are worth a visit in their own right.
Year round sun makes the resort ideal for a family friendly break no matter the season, with a varied range of accommodation available to suit all tastes and all budgets.
Quieter than nearby Playa del Ingles, the resort offers a range of first class restaurants as well as designer boutiques that are perfect for those who want to indulge in some duty free shopping whilst away from home.
Close to the resort you’ll find golf courses, a popular waterpark and Sioux City; a special attraction themed around the Wild West.

Enjoy the beach
Maspalomas is a great place to relax on the golden sands that line the coast of Gran Canaria, with the blue flag rated beach running for some 6km along the coast. Bars and restaurants can be found nearby, whilst there are various watersports available in the stunning blue waters. You can even ride a camel on the beach if you wish.
Explore the dunes
Backing onto the beach are the famous dunes that make up the Maspalomas Natural Park. On the back of a camel is a great way to explore the desert-like landscapes whilst you could also pay a visit to the lagoon on the edge of the dunes that is home to various rare species of birds.
Aqualand
If you have the kids in tow, or if you are still a child at heart yourself, then a visit to Aqualand is a must during a trip to Maspalomas. Here, you can enjoy a day of fun on various slides that cater for all ages – from high-speed thrills like Tornado and Kamikaze to a more sedate lazy river. There is also a popular sea lion show.
Palmitos Park
Another great option if you are travelling with the family, Palmitos Park is a wildlife park that is home to a wide selection of different species. Catch a dolphin show and watch monkeys at play during your day in the park, which can be tied into a trip to Aqualand as part of a dual ticket.
Botanical Gardens
If you want to spend some time away from the beach then the Botanical Gardens is a good place to head. The gardens are home to around 50 different types of plants from around the world and are a great place in which to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the bustling centre of the resort.
El Faro Lighthouse
The lighthouse at El Faro towards the end of the main beach was long used to help guide ships that were sailing from Africa and America. The third highest lighthouse in Spain is now a popular attraction for people who want to take in views across Maspalomas and the surrounding area.
Maspalomas Golf
If you fancy a round of golf during a trip to Gran Canaria, then Maspalomas Golf is a great place to pay a visit. Surrounded by the dunes and with a nice breeze coming in from the sea to keep you cool, the 18 hole course is suitable for players of all levels
Shops/Markets
You won’t be short of options when it comes to shopping in Maspalomas, with plenty of places where you can grab some souvenirs to take back home. That includes large shopping centres and traditional markets where you can barter for the best deals with the local traders.
