Read MoreIf you are looking for a good time on the Costa Brava, then Lloret de Mar is likely to be right at the top of your list.
Located around an hour from Barcelona, the resort is a classic holiday hotspot with plenty to see and do for all the family.
It’s for that reason that tourists have been flocking to Lloret de Mar in their droves for decades, with families, couples and friends alike embracing the chance to enjoy their HOT Holiday in the sun.
As with many Spanish coastal resorts, Lloret de Mar was once a small fishing village where the main excitement each day would come from seeing what the ships had managed to catch whilst out at sea.
Nowadays it’s the vibrant nightlife, the top quality beaches and the busy waterpark that keep people entertained – although there is still the opportunity to embrace what life used to be like before the tourism boom.
When it comes to relaxing on the beach, Lloret de Mar is a destination that delivers in spades. Around the heart of the resort there are two Blue Flag beaches where you can lie back and embrace the sun, whilst there is also a myriad of small hidden beaches in various coves for those who want to escape the crowds.
The welcoming waters are perfect for taking a refreshing dip and are also popular with snorkelers and divers who want to examine the marine life that can be found off the coast.
When it comes to entertainment, there is no shortage of options within Lloret de Mar, with plenty of bars and restaurants both along the waterfront and also in the heart of the resort.
From fast food outlets to traditional taverns and upscale eateries offering cuisine from the world, there is something to cater for all tastes – which only serves to showcase how inclusive the resort is.
Add into the mix the fact that Lloret de Mar is home to one of the biggest waterparks in Spain, the opportunity to explore the history and culture of the Old Town or to spend a day exploring the sights and sounds of Barcelona and it isn’t hard to see why Lloret de Mar is so popular.
Waterworld
Open during the height of the summer, Waterworld is one of the most popular attractions on the Costa Brava and provides fun for all the family. Fun for all ages is assured, with a splash park for the smallest visitors, wave pools, Jacuzzis and then a wide selection of slides – including the fearsome freefall Speed Furious and the high-speed Kamikaze.
Sant Joan Castle
The Castle of Sant Joan dates back to the eleventh century and was used to defend Lloret from attacks from the sea. Destroyed in the Battle of Trafalgar, the remains of the castle have undergone renovation work and now provide an insight into the history of the resort as well as stunning views of the surrounding region.
Marineland Catalunya
Marineland Catalunya is located near to Lloret de Mar and is another attraction that is well suited to families who are looking to add extra fun to their break in the sun. As well as a range of waterslides, the park is home to a large family of dolphins, sea lions and exotic birds that take part in shows throughout the year.
Lloret Beach
There are no shortage of beaches to visit during a break to Lloret de Mar but the one that sits in the heart of the resort is arguably the most popular. Lloret Beach runs for amore than a mile and offers golden sand alongside the clear blue waters of the sea, with plenty of bars and restaurants on the promenade that runs alongside. A Blue Flag rating shows the quality of the beach.
Dance until the early hours
If you want to party on the Costa Brava then Lloret de Mar is the to do it. Head for the area round Av. Just Marles Vilarrodona and you’ll find literally hundreds of bars where you can enjoy all manner of evening entertainment, with the area being particularly popular with the younger clientele who have a desire to dance late into the night in one of the various discos.
Barcelona
Given how close Barcelona is to Lloret de Mar, you might want to spend a day exploring the Catalan capital. Visit famous sites like Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia or Park Guell, explore the Olympic Park in Montjuïc, take a tour of the Nou Camp Stadium or simply stroll the streets to take in gothic architecture, visit top class restaurants or indulge in some retail therapy at the very best designer stores. Given you’re only likely to be paying a flying visit, it’s a matter of deciding what you cram into a day in the city.
Sample fine wines
The Costa Brava is home to a number of wineries that produce top quality wines that are now enjoyed throughout the world. By visiting one of the local vineyards, you can explore the methods that go into producing wines from scratch. Walk through vineyards packed with grapes and then take a tour that shows the processes that go into creating natural wines that you can then sample for yourself. Mas Molla and Mas Llunes are both easily accessible from Lloret de Mar.
Fisherman’s Wife
If you want to celebrate the history of Lloret de Mar from the days when it was just a quiet fishing village then a walk to the Fisherman’s Wife is a must. The sculpture is located at the end of Lloret Beach and legend says that if you touch the foot whilst looking out to sea, your wish will come true. Afterwards, you can further explore the maritime history of the resort with a stroll through the old town, where traditional buildings line the narrow streets.
