Dorado

Dorado is located to the west of the capital San Juan and a fantastic option for those who want to enjoy a traditional Puerto Rican experience on their visit to the Caribbean.

A trip to the city provides ample opportunity to explore local culture and see the influence of both the Spanish and the African on the island, whilst the Sanctuary of Christ of the Reconciliation is home to one of the largest statues of Christ to be found anywhere in the Caribbean.

Lining the nearby coast you’ll find plenty of high end hotels that provide the chance to relax in luxury alongside impressive stretches of coast, with the area around Dorado featuring more than 20 beaches.

Whilst some of those are ideal for lying back and embracing the sunshine, others are more focused on a range of water-based activities - with surfing being particularly popular.

Dorado is also home to a number of golf courses for those who want to get a round in during their time on the island.

Given how close the capital is, a visit to San Juan is a must during a trip to Dorado in order to explore history dating back to the of Spanish rule - with the San Juan National Historic Site being one of the top attractions anywhere on the island.
