Summer may be coming to an end but it’s by no means too late to enjoy a beach break in the sun, with a range of options still available where you can top up the tan before the nights draw in and the cold chill of winter arrives.
Throughout September, whilst it may not be as warm as in the middle of summer, you’ll still be able to enjoy plenty of sun without heading too far afield, with the likes of the Balearic Islands being the perfect options for travellers keen to travel once the peak season has drawn to a close.
Those who want to let their hair down might want to consider a trip to the island of Ibiza, where average temperatures through September and October will still be in excess of 20 degrees and you’ll be able to benefit from more than 10 hours of sun a day.
Even if the chance of rain is noticeably higher than during June and July, the island provides plenty of opportunities to top up the tan, to let you hair down, and to have plenty of fun – with stunning sandy beaches and a range of historical sites to cater for those who aren’t attracted by the bustling bars and well-known nightclubs in resorts like San Antonio.
The same weather conditions are a major attraction for neighbouring islands like Majorca and Menorca, where there is plenty to do for both couples and families alike who want to embrace the beauty of the islands away from the crowds that tend to accompany peak season.
It’s not just the Balearics that should appeal though, with a few hours longer on a plane opening up the chance to explore the Canary Islands, with a position closer to the equator and near to the African coast meaning there is never really a bad time to visit.
During September and October, conditions won’t be vastly different to either June or July in terms of temperatures and hours of sun, whilst precipitation levels will still be relatively low.
It means the sandy beaches of Fuerteventura, the ‘miniature continent’ that is Gran Canaria and the family friendly resorts of Tenerife should be just as appealing in the autumn as they would be at the height of summer.
Looking elsewhere you could sample the delights that are to be found within northern African countries like Morocco, sample the nation where East and West collide on a visit to Turkey or head further afield to the Caribbean, where there will be plenty of sun and warm temperatures, although a greater chance of encountering rain due to the tropical climate.
