Nearly a week has now passed since Donald Trump secured victory in the US presidential election – ensuring that he will replace Barack Obama as the 45th president in late January.

It’s been a campaign that has divided people from coast to coast, and has also been viewed with intense interest across the globe as Trump went head-to-head with Hillary Clinton for a place in the White House.

But with victory now claimed by Trump, what impact could it have on the tourism industry.

Aside from the fact that the number of people visiting from Mexico is likely to decrease, news of Trump’s victory had an immediate impact on the value of the dollar – in much the same way that Brexit led to a fall in the value of the pound.

Once victory was confirmed, the dollar immediately dropped in value although it has since recovered some of that last value in the days that have followed as global markets come to terms with the result.

Despite that, there remains uncertainly over how the dollar will perform in the coming months, which could open up the opportunity to save some money when it comes to booking a trip Stateside.

There is also the real possibility that a Trump victory could result in people deciding against an American holiday; particularly taking into account some of the views expressed during his successful election campaign.

Should that prove to be the case, then a fall in demand could also bring down costs – making the USA more attractive to those who do want to travel.

It’s perhaps also worth paying attention to the ongoing price of the dollar when it comes to fuel prices, given that aviation fuel – like the fuel you use to run your car – is traded in dollars. Any reduction in the price of fuel could see travel costs drop, although it remains to be seen how big any such reductions would be.

On the other side of the coin however, don’t expect to be getting through security checks when you arrive in the USA any quicker once Trump comes into office. You might also find yourself needing a visa further down the line should the new president make a big push with his immigration changes.

Regardless of which way things go, we have a wide selection of American holidays available to suit a varied range of budgets, so why not head to the homepage or pick up the phone and give us a call on 01332 920171 to see what we can do for you.
