The Protaras area boasts 5 glorious golden sand beaches including the famous ‘Fig Tree Bay’. It gets its name from a solitary fig tree that stands a small distance from the beach. According to local legend, the tree arrived with eastern invaders in the 17th century and has guarded the coastline ever since.

Most of the beaches in the area, are patrolled by lifeguards throughout the day. Tourists will find that most of the beaches in the area have been accredited a blue flag because of their clear, shallow water and cleanliness.
