The hillside village was once the capital of the island but is now a popular resort for families and couples alike who are drawn in by the rustic charm to be found at every turn.

Kefalos itself is very much a resort of two parts, with the narrow streets of the old town lined with charming traditional buildings that reflect the history of the town.

Head down the hill towards the beach however, and you find some of the best stretches of sand anywhere on the island.

In fact, the beach at Kamari is the one that features in many tourist brochures due to its picturesque nature.

Here, you can relax in the sun, take a refreshing dip in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean or sample a selection of watersports – with surfing being particularly popular.

Alongside the beach, you’ll also find the more lively bars for some low-key evening entertainment, with those in the heart of Kefalos itself not really geared up for a late night when the sun goes down.

There are plenty of opportunities however to sample some fine dining from around the world, or to enjoy a relaxed drink.
