Some people take the view that you need to be right on the beach if you want to enjoy a break in the Mediterranean but if ever there was a resort to show that isn’t the case, then it might just be Imerovigli.
Located close to the capital Thira, Imerovigli is one of the most picture postcard options for a break on the island of Santorini and provides some of the most astonishing – and iconic – views that you could possibly wish for.
Following the volcanic eruption that shaped the island, Imerovigli was left sitting on a high cliff overlooking the caldera where the heart of Santorini once stood.
What that means is that visitors to the resort can expect to have some of the best views on the island as they look out across the ocean.
Those views can be complemented by fine dining in some of the local restaurants, or with a refreshing drink in one of the many wine bars or taverns.
Imerovigli is famous for its white-washed buildings and blue domed churches, with plenty to explore as you wander through the narrow streets.
Should you decide that you want to explore the volcanic beaches, then you don’t have to go far to find some of the best Blue Flag beaches amongst the Greek islands.
You’ll just want to make sure that you are back in time for sunset so you can pay a visit to Skaros Rock in order to watch the sun go down in the most dramatic of fashions.
