When a lot of people think about visiting Dubai, the first thought is the popular tourist areas around the coastal parts of the Emirate - such as Jumeirah Beach and Palm Jumeirah.
However, there is plenty to see and do if you instead elect to book a break that sees you staying in the heart of Dubai City itself…
Although you can make the argument that the views might not be quite as impressive as looking out over the blue waters of the Persian Gulf, Dubai City is without doubt one of the most appealing destinations for anyone who is considering a short break and wants to go a little further afield than the usual options back in Europe.
In amongst the various high rise buildings that have sprung up across Dubai City as it has rapidly grown through the year, you can find some of the top hotels in the Emirate - with the likes of the Hilton Dubai City, Caesars Palace Dubai and the Hyatt Regency just three possible options for a short break.
The bustling city is home to various attractions that will inform and entertain in equal measure whilst you will have ample opportunity to dine in some of the best restaurants in the Middle East - offering both local and international cuisine of the highest order.
Head for the Marina
Dubai Marina can be easily accessed from the heart of the city and is the main hub for a range of different water-based activities. You might want to consider a high-speed blast along the coast on a speedboat or perhaps you would prefer the more sedate experience of a trip on a yacht with food and drink included. A sunset cruise in particular offers the chance to experience a different view of the city.
Hit the dunes
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, then why not go inland to explore the stunning beauty of the surrounding sand dunes. If you want the authentic experience, then you can make the trip on the back of a camel but there are also plenty of chances to hop into a 4x4 or jump on a quad bike whilst you might even get chance to sample sandboarding.
If you love shopping then Dubai is certainly the right place for you, with the city being home to some of the biggest and best shopping malls to be found anywhere in the world. The Dubai Mall is the largest of the lot with more than 1,000 stores but the Festival City Mall and the Mall of the Emirates are both as appealing - albeit on a smaller scale. Head for City Walk and you’ll find a mix of fashion boutiques where you can grab yourself a bargain.
Visit the Fountain
Paying a visit to a fountain might not sound like the most interesting way to spend some of your time in Dubai, but the Dubai Fountain is a world away from anything you are likely to have seen before. Located near to the Burj Khalifa, the fountain comes live on an evening with a spectacular musical display taking place every half an hour through until 11pm. With restaurants and bars providing the ideal place to watch the show, it’s a great way to spend an evening.
