We’re back in the Caribbean this month as we explore some of the top destinations for a long haul holiday in the sun.
The islands in the region have long been a popular option for an overseas adventure and here, in part one of a two-part blog, we take a look at some of the reasons why with our Caribbean A-Z.
A is for Adventure
It doesn’t matter where you head in the Caribbean, you’re sure to feel a massive sense of adventure as you follow in the footsteps of famous explorers from days gone by. There are also plenty of adventurous activities that you can sample, from diving and snorkelling around coral reefs and shipwrecks through to mountain hikes and high rope courses.
B is for Beach
The Caribbean is arguably the best place in the world to go for a beach break, with so many fantastic stretches of sand on which you can lie back, relax and just chill out under the sun. Expect to see plenty of golden sand and clear blue water no matter which island you visit as the options are almost endless.
C is for Cuisine
The different islands of the Caribbean all have their own unique identity and that can be seen in the varied cuisine that is served from one to the next. From jerk chicken in Jamaica to flying fish in Barbados, there is sure to be something to tickle your tastebuds.
D is for Diving
The clear waters around the islands of the Caribbean are teeming with marine life and provide some of the best diving to be found anywhere in the world. With options for beginners and experts alike, the Caribbean is a go-to destination for anyone who has a desire to see what lies beneath the surface.
E is for Escape
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life then what better place to head that a desert island? Even if you find yourself on one of the busier options in the Caribbean, there are sure to be secluded areas where you can get away from the crowds and enjoy some peace and tranquility.
F is for Fun
Fun is something that is pretty much guaranteed on a trip to the Caribbean, with so much that you can see and do whilst visiting the islands.
G is for Ginger Beer
Jamaica is known for ginger beer, which dates back to colonial times. Traditional Jamaican ginger beer is non-alcoholic and a refreshing way in which to cool down after a hot day relaxing in the sun.
H is for Hike
A trip to the Caribbean doesn’t have to be just relaxing and doing nothing. Head inland from the picturesque beaches on many of the islands and you’ll find impressive landscapes that can be explored at leisure on a hiking trip.
I is for Islands
Take your pick as there are quite literally thousands spread across the Caribbean, although a large number are uninhabited and not for visitors.
J is for Jackfruit
Although more widely found in Asia, Jackfruit is now a delicacy that can be found across the Caribbean having been introduced to Jamaica - for one - in the 1700s. The large fruit is used in a wide range of Caribbean dishes, including curries, which help to bring out the flavour.
K is for Kayaking
Watersports are a big part of the Caribbean, and kayaking is one of the most relaxing ways in which you can get involved. It’s a great way to see the Caribbean marine life in coastal areas or to explore inland lagoons and waterways.
L is for Luxury
The Caribbean has long been a popular destination for the rich and famous and as a result, you can expect to find plenty of top class, luxury accommodation - with a raft of five star hotels and resorts that offer everything you could possibly want from a holiday.
M is for Music
Singing and dancing has a big part to play in Caribbean life and listening to traditional music is one of the best ways to be entertained during the course of a visit to any of the islands.
